CCR Question 1 Draft
1. How does your project use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
My magazine has many conventions that are used to attract the audience to buy the issue. The use of models in my pictures, especially on the cover and for articles give a sense of reliability. Celebrities in the pictures helps bring more awareness to the magazine and acquire a larger audience. This appeals to the general public, especially women aged 18-49 because they are most interested in entertainment news, according to Entertainment Weekly. Kid models give a sense of relatability. The main article in the December 2019 issue has pictures of kids. This especially helps younger readers feel like they are accepted. The Broadway font I use for the magazine title and subtitles. It is recognizable as the font used on playbills and it is very bold and dramatic. It gives a luxury feel. Although I am targeting middle class workers, the font is dramatic and makes it look fancy.
